-Skywave- Instrumental music that is the melodic fusion of Jazz, Blues, Rock and Latin; AKA Avante Blues.
After thirty years playing sideman in many local Colorado bands of all musical stripes, Michael Hossler came into an unexpected windfall that made the recording of his 1998 CD release ‘Another Day in Paradise’ possible. With the good fortune of having a large sphere of musician friends to help flesh out his own compositions it was possible to create a final product that earned him finalist in the Best Jazz Artist category of the 2000 Los Angeles Music Awards Show in Beverley Hills, CA; as well as two runner-ups in the Latin category and one honorable mention in the 2001 John Lennon Songwriting Contest.
-Skywave- was formed when Michael decided to put a live performance group together to showcase his compositions. The magic of those rehearsals generated an interest in pursuing the possibilities beyond a mere showcase band. The group is propelled by some of Denver’s finest musicians including original contributing members on the recording, Bruce Crisman on drums and Ed Contreras on percussion. Also now contributing to these efforts are Chuck Smith on keyboards as well as Roberto Monreal on bass. With this combination of talents there is a wealth of personal musical histories and experiences merging to create an accessible fusion of melodic, harmonic and rhythmic soundscapes.
Partial CD Review Great energy and musicianship abound on this recording by Denver-based Guitarist/composer Michael Hossler. Stylistically, the material is bluesy fusion, with a lot of Latin and acoustic influences. Hossler's electric guitar playing is outstanding throughout with fine backup by a host of other Denver players…. Highly recommended for all baby boomers and a must for all hippies, young and old.
